Woman's History Month (March 2025)

📢 Woman's History Month 2025

Women's History Month is celebrated to recognize and honor the vital contributions of women throughout history. It serves to address the historical imbalance that often overlooked or minimized women's achievements. By highlighting their diverse roles and accomplishments in various fields, we aim to create a more inclusive and accurate understanding of history. Furthermore, celebrating Women's History Month inspires present and future generations by showcasing the power and resilience of women, promoting gender equality and empowerment.

This year's theme is "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations"

💡 How it Started?

In 1978 the celebration began as Women's History Week in Sonoma County, California. A local school district organized a week-long event during the week of March 8, aligning with International Women's Day. In 1980 the movement gained national attention when President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8, 1980, as National Women's History Week

Then in 1987, following sustained advocacy by the National Women's History Project (now the National Women's History Alliance), Congress passed a resolution designating March as Women's History Month. Since then, successive presidents have issued annual proclamations reaffirming March as Women's History Month, each year highlighting specific themes to honor women's diverse accomplishments and experiences.
